The only way to India is over the Himalayas

As we couldn’t get on a boat from Singapore, the only way to get to India was over the Himalayas.

From Singapore I turned back to Thailand, then through Laos and into China.

Then through the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China to Nepal.

As I am not keen to go back to the road I have just passed, I take a slightly different route and head north.

Moreover, it is cold in February in the Himalayas, so I take as much time as possible to go north.

I will start 2003 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and from here Iwill go to Thailand, Laos, China and Tibet, but as it is now winter we decided to go as slowly as possible northwards.

The Tibetan road reaches 5000m above sea level and it is difficult to drive in winter, so I wanted to go there when the weather is as warm as possible. Even in winter, it was hot here in Malaysia, just like summer.
