By supporting my friends I got new bike same like the first one.
I set off from Guangzhou with new bicycle,I no longer have the anxiety I had when I left Tsingtao.
I guess I’ve gotten used to China without realising it.
Next my destination is Vietnam.
In the past three months, I have become accustomed to sleeping in the open air in China and are not at all cautious, simply sleeping in front of the shutters.
In the middle of the night, as usual, a police officer comes and asks me
“What are you doing there? ”
But I’m used to this too.
I said in Chinese:
“I’m Japanese, can I sleep here?”
I said in Chinese. He smiles and says
“Be careful.”
And then he was gone. Later, the traffic policeman came again, but this time there was no problem.
I left just as it was getting light in the morning and the streets were starting to fill with people.
Has my image of China changed?
Is it that southern China is different from the north? I felt that the people were much friendlier than before. When I told them that I was going to Vietnam by bicycle,
they gave me juice and water, and sometimes they even let me stay overnight.
I used to be afraid to take my camera out in public because I thought it might be stolen, but now I don’t feel that way anymore.
The bicycle trip from Guangzhou to the Vietnamese border was not scary at all, and more than that, I was touched by the kindness of the locals.
The image of China that I had before was completely different from the scary one I had before, it had become a very kind China.
